Obstacles To Enlightenment

As I re-read Eckhart Tolle's Power of Now, this phrase leaps out at me; "Most people treat the present moment as if it were an obstacle they need to overcome."   Of course, now that the thought is in my consciousness, I also have an awareness of how this shows up in my day-to-day life.

I notice how in the present moment at the grocery store people rush to park and shop and get back out.

I notice how in the present moment at the gym, there is a rush to get on the treadmill, get through the workout and rush on to the next activity of the day.

I notice how in the present moment, a man walking his dog is distracted by his phone, nose down and pulling on the dog to keep going.

And, I am guilty of that same thing.  I push to get through work so I can get to the store, then go home and walk the dog, then cook dinner, then catch up on email and Facebook and Pinterest...and on and on.

In an instant, I see that mindfulness doesn't fit neatly into my 15 minutes of meditation a day.  Mindfulness and being in the present moment are something that is practiced each day in every moment.

So, I've begun again to slow down a bit and give my attention to the present moment.

Walking up the stairs, I enjoy the strength in my legs that let me easily climb up to my bedroom.

Cooking dinner, I inhale the aroma of delicious flavors and give thanks for the food about to grace my table.

Walking the dog, I watch as his ears flop up and down, and his nose twitches as he explores the green grass of a neighbors lawn.

I am remembering to treat the present moment as Life itself, something to savor and experience, filled with beauty and joy, expanding with good beyond my imagination.

Today, I set the intention to surrender to the present moment and embrace it as Life itself as I journey toward enlightenment.

"Always say 'yes' to the present moment...surrender to what is.
Say 'yes' to life - and see how life starts suddenly
to start working for you rather than against you."
~Eckhart Tolle

"Enlightenment, joy and peace can never be
given to you by another.  The well is inside you."
~Thich Nhat Hanh

Affirmative Prayer:
Sitting in a space of gratitude, there is the recognition of the One Divine Intelligence that is kindness and compassion, beauty and joy, shining light and love over all of creation.  One God.  One Power.  One Presence.  One Life

This One Power and One Presence is made manifest with my life.  It seeks expression through me.  Its beauty flows around me.  Its elegance lives as me.  I am pure bliss and light itself.

I embrace the truth that no matter what, I am fully supported in all that I do.  I accept that I am unique, traveling a path that is mine alone.  I graciously accept the bounty of miracles and blessings that flow into my life daily.  I welcome the expansion into ever-increasing good that comes as I take divine right action.  And, I affirm that as I bring my full awareness to the present moment, a feeling of joy and serenity overtakes me and reminds me that I am the beloved of God.

I am grateful for the clarity of my thoughts and actions as I remain in the present.  I give thanks for the love that surrounds me, even in the smallest of ways - a song that makes me smile, a bird singing in the trees, the moonlight shining through my window.  And, I say Thank You, Sweet Spirit, for the peace that surrounds me in every moment of mindfulness.

From a place of peace and joy, I release my prayer to the Law of Mind, surrendering and letting God take care of the 'how'.  It is done now in amazing ways.  Life is good.  Amen.  Alleluia.  And so it is.

You Need To Get Good At This

Thoughts about work woke me up at 3am this morning.  And, of course, I lay there fighting between the tasks I had ahead of me and the need to get more sleep.  Talk about frustrating!

I had emails to get out and meetings to attend and things to correct & resend for approval.  Taking on this new job, I knew there would be a workload to tackle on some weeks but I was certain I could manage with no issues.  After all, I'm a spiritual being.  I have a whole took kit of tricks to keep my life balanced.

The real trick is remembering to pull them out when I need them.  Fortunately, I'm getting better and better at this as I continue my inward journey.

So, after about 20 minutes of letting my mind go crazy with thoughts of work, I called a halt to my spinning mind and switched into meditation mode.

What surprised me about this process is how quickly I was able to adjust my attitude.  With that decision to stop and to focus on my breathe, to connect with Spirit and turn over my work to a higher power that has all the answers, I began to feel a freedom and peace calm my thoughts.

There was a visceral feeling of stillness in my heart.  And flashes of insight emerged.

In the past, I would step out of meditation and write down the insights.  Instead, I stayed in the quiet and simply noticed as ideas came and went.  I stayed focused on my breath.  And, eventually, I fell into a restful sleep.

I am seeing that every time I turn to my spiritual practices for a solution, each experience is different.  It becomes deeper.  There is an acceptance for what is and then a release to trust and have faith that something wonderful is happening.

It's beautiful to see that my practice is paying off.  I only need to keep going and remember that, in every moment <even at 3am> the solution is within.

So, where are YOU seeing the efforts of your continued spiritual practices become something wonderful that works in your life?

Today, I set the intention to remember the power of my spiritual practices when the demands of my busy life start to overwhelm me.

"Dig within.  There lies the well-spring of good; ever dig and it will ever flow."
~Marcus Aurelius

"Go within; get quiet; become still until the peace that passeth understanding descends."
~Joel Goldsmith

Affirmative Prayer:
As the fog settles gently over the mountains, there is a knowing of the essence of life itself, a Divine Power, that settles gently over all that is.  It is the breath of the One Life; magnificent, joyful, serene.

In the newness of this day, I see clearly that I am the joy of Spirit made manifest.  I am the magnificence in every action, the serenity in every moment as I allow the One Creative Life to flow through me and around me in all that I do.

And as the fog clears to reveal the mountaintops, so too are visions and dreams for my life revealed. I see so clearly that I am here to create, to be happy and healthy, prosperous and strong.  Within me is the spaciousness to allow unlimited possibilities to flow forth into expression. I affirm that as I grow strong in the use of my spiritual practices, my life is transformed in beautiful, meaningful ways.  I say Yes! to Life and release what is in the way of something even greater unfolding on my journey. New ideas call to me and I step out in faith and trust, knowing they are a Divine expression of Life itself, and I will never need be overwhelmed, only take each moment as it comes.

I give thanks for the newness of my life with each day.  Life is so good and I am grateful for spiritual practices like meditation that allow me to go within and find peace and comfort.  And I say, Thank You, Spirit, for a remarkable life filled with wonderful experiences and loving, joyful people who lift me up.

From this place of deep, deep gratitude, I lovingly release my prayer to the Divine Action of the Law, knowing it is done and all is well.  God's got this.  And I let it be so.  And so it is.  Amen.

Dive Deep Into The Stillness

"When you contemplate the nature of Self, you are meditating.  That is why meditation is the highest state.  It is the return to the root of your being, the simple awareness of being aware.  Once you become conscious of the consciousness itself, you attain a totally different state.  You are now aware of who you are."  ~Michael Singer, the untethered soul

I'm convinced that has to be one of the most beautiful things I've ever read.  In part, that's because, of all of my spiritual practices, meditation has to be the most challenging for me.

I often feel like that scene from Eat, Pray, Love where Julia Roberts is trying meditation for the first time in the temple.  She fidgets and watches the time and gets frustrated at trying to sit so still.  Of course, the revelation for her comes when she chooses to focus her meditation time on contemplation of how she can serve someone else.

That is when the magic unfolds for her.  And, that is what speaks to me most about what Michael Singer wrote.

When I spend time in contemplation, rather than trying to quiet my mind, I come out of my meditation feeling so much closer to Spirit.  And, when I focus my awareness on my conscious thought and simply notice the thoughts as they occur, I start to get to the root of who I am.

I've also noticed that when I focus my awareness, I can listen more deeply for the answer to my questions.  So as I contemplate who I am and how I might serve or how I can uncover my gifts and talents, my intuition feels heightened.  Time seems to slow and sometimes, I get a visceral feeling like I am truly connected to Source.

The good news I'm starting to recognize is that, as I come out of contemplation and go about my day, I can more easily tap into my heart when I need to make a decision.

In fact, I believe that is EXACTLY what is happening in my life right now.  Last week, I made the decision to leave my job and take a break.  It's definitely a leap of faith but I've had no real feelings of concern (only one noticeable "yikes" moment last week).

My heart feels light and I'm seeing opportunities to volunteer and contribute pop up out of the blue.  And each day that I take the time to connect through contemplation of Self, I feel that my life is transforming into something so much more meaningful for me.

So, I keep practicing this 'most' every morning. My favorite question to ask in contemplation this week has been "How does it get any better than this?"

As I go about my day just noticing and being aware, I can start to see evidence of how it IS getting better.  And as I see the evidence, I ask the question again; "How does it get any better than this?"

What does the Universe answer?   Something even better than I imagined possible...

So what are some questions YOU can contemplate during a time of stillness?  And, do you trust your own intuition when you get the answers?

Today, I set the intention to make time to contemplate the nature of Self, becoming more of myself in the process and trusting the guidance of my heart as I make choices.

"The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness."  ~Lao-Tzu

"One of the great saints, Ramana Maharishi, used to ask, 'Who am I?' We see now
that this is a very deep question.  Ask it ceaselessly, constantly.  Ask it and you will
notice that you are the answer.  There is no intellectual answer - you are the answer.
Be the answer, and everything will change."

Affirmative Prayer:
As the crescendo of this day grows stronger, it culminates in the knowing that there is only One Life.  A Divine Perfect, Truth that is harmony and grace, love and gratitude.  It is an awe-inspiring Divine Intelligence that energizes each moment with power and perfection.  And it is an Infinite Presence that creates everything out of Itself.

Sensing and embracing this truth, my heart and my soul celebrates that this Divine Life yearns to express through me and as me.  I surrender to the Infinite Intelligence that I call God and awaken to living a life inspired by faith and trust.  And I am clear that I am guided daily by a Divine Power simply by saying Yes! to the realization that I am One with Source.

As I step into a life designed to reveal the Divine Source within me, I make the time to be quiet and listen for answers.  I ask questions like "How does it get any better than this?" and Spirit says, "This way, follow me."  I let go of any thoughts of lack or limitation and allow my desires full reign to out-picture in my life.  And as I follow my intuition, the richness and opulence of the Universe is laid out for the pure enjoyment of it.  Seeing the results of my consciousness of Oneness unfold in beautiful ways, I welcome the continuing exploration of who I truly am - a spiritual being having a human experience.

Surrendering to the perfect mind of Spirit at my center, I am deeply grateful for the unfolding of the highest and greatest good that life has to offer me.  I am thankful for the insights that I receive daily as I remain open at the top.  And I am filled with gratitude for the richness and opulence that remind me that all of my needs are met, right here and right now.

From a place of awareness of my good, I release my word to the Divine Action of the Law, knowing it is already done.  I know exactly who I am!  And I let it be so.  And so it is.

Aligning Routine With Spontaneity

I have been riding on the party vibes of my birthday for the past few weeks.  It was a fun few weeks and very energizing, considering it means I'm another year older.  I allowed myself to enjoy anything that caught my attention - trip to Washington State, late night happy hour, playing Cards Against Humanity, shopping trips at the mall.

Unfortunately, my enthusiasm for saying yes has left me feeling a bit overwhelmed.  So, I'm throwing out the last of the party cake and tossing out the lingering cards and empty boxes.  Truth be told, I'm ready to step back into more of a routine and relax in my everyday rituals.

Meditation, journaling, walking the dog, exercise - all of them have me remembering to breathe and connect back to my source, to Spirit.

But - what my "party" time has allowed me to see is that life is all about God expressing and experiencing as our life, right now.  We are Spiritual beings having a human incarnation, as Michael Beckwith likes to say.   It is in living and stepping into the things that call to us in the moment that we expand our connection to each other and our connection to the Universe.

Our journey's here are intertwined and it is often through synchronicity and coincidence that I am propelled to my next level of opportunity.  Sometimes, it's just for the experience of fun or joy or compassion so that when I need to tap into that energetic feeling, I can remember.

Other times, it truly is through the connections I've made with others that I find an even better job, meet a soul mate, or make the introduction that might be life-changing for someone else.

So, while I need the routine to take a breathe and recharge, I also embrace my free-spirited nature for the gift that it is.

Claiming my free-spirited nature as part of my purpose here, I set the intention today to enjoy my journey, balancing the routine days with spontaneity in perfect ways for me.

"Be like a sponge when it comes to each new experience.  If you want
to be able to express it well, you must first be able to absorb it well."
 ~Jim Rohn

"Waste no more time talking about great souls and how
they should be.  Become one yourself!"
~Marcus Aurelius

Affirmative Prayer:
In the awareness of this moment, there is a light that shines as Spirit, bringing a warmth and a newness to all that is.  It is a Power for good that illuminates possibility and awakens the magnificence that is the Indwelling Presence of God.

Feeling the warmth and the newness of Spirit, I let It spread through me as my life now.    I allow Source to pull me into the experience of the journey, knowing It is guiding and sustaining me from a place of love and of peace.  I am made new in each moment, in each breathe, in each heartbeat.

Restored by the newness, I know perfect right action for every choice I make in my life.  I step into my journey, sitting in expectation of the beauty of the outcome, trusting that each person I meet is for a purpose.  I let go of any past hurts or wounds and embrace only the now.  I lean into the spontaneous moments, attracting people and situations that propel me into opportunities that look like miracles and answered prayer.  And I bless the routine moments of my day, accepting the gifts that they bring as part of my expansion.

I am so grateful for the ever-increasing good in my life.  And I am thankful for the miracles and answered prayer that are showered on me by a Power greater than me.  Thank you, Life, for the joy that is always available in every moment of the day and night.

It is from this place of gratitude that I release my word to the Divine Action of the Law, knowing my word is returned to me fulfilled in powerful and amazing ways.  And I let it be so.  And so it is.

Growth Through Divine Discontent

Divine discontent is a term I read recently that speaks to my choice to change how I respond in every moment.  So, rather than be annoyed with a situation or frustrated with a person in my life, I can choose to take responsibility and respond differently.

But - how do I handle things when the annoying or frustrating person is me?

I admit that I like to direct my life and it's getting close to the time of year when it's the perfect opportunity to set intentions.  My challenge is that I have no idea what I really want to accomplish in the next few weeks let alone over the next year.

So - I'm now annoyed with myself that I lack vision and frustrated that my normal tendency to be a go-getter and has gotten up and left!

Fortunately, since my daily spiritual practice involves meditation, I decided to take this uncertainty into the silence today and ask the Universe for guidance.  What I received back was an internal nudge to focus on how I want to FEEL.   And, I had a sense of overwhelming love reminding me that beating myself up serves no purpose.

I am loved beyond measure and Spirit wants my success in all things.

Reading my horoscope in Elle magazine this week, I was reminded about vision boards and I am feeling pulled to sit and create one.    It mentioned that rather than deliberately seek out pictures of what I want, I should just flip through magazines and clip pictures that call out to me and make me feel a certain way.

What a great idea!  It is an opportunity for my subconscious, my soul, to give me some clarity around the action steps I should be taking.

So, I'm am giving myself a break and stepping out in faith that I am exactly where I am supposed to be at this point in my life.   I will continue to go with the flow and trust the Universe to support me.

And, I set the intention today to make the space for Spirit to show me in clear and understandable ways, where I should be focusing my time in each moment.

"When a man looks at the stars, he grows calm and forgets small things.
They answer his questions and show him that his earth is only one
of the million worlds.  Hold your soul still and look upward often,
and you will understand their speech.  Never forget the stars."
~ Frances Hodgson Burnett

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where
this is no path and leave a trail."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Affirmative Prayer:
In every moment of every day, there is only One Power and One Presence.  It is in the beating of every heart, in the sounds of the ocean waves and the touch of a dog's wet nose against soft skin.

As the heart beats and the ocean waves crash against the shore, this One Presence that I call God also crashes and beats through and around and as me.  Every where I turn, I can feel the presence guiding and supporting me in all that I do.  In every choice I make, there is a Divine Wisdom that is always available.  In every step I take, Spirit is guiding the direction and making the path easy and effortless.

Knowing that a Divine Presence moves through me, I know that I am here on purpose for a purpose.  As that purpose unfolds, I am always available to hear Spirit speaking when I simply make the time to be still and listen.   And as I am guided by a loving Presence, I am given clear signs to direct my steps.  It is so easy to understand what my intuition tells me I must do.  And my path is smoothed over with love, with joy and with passion for all that is in my life right now.

It is from this place of passion and joy that I give thanks that I am here in this moment for a reason, for a purpose that is bigger than me.  And I am filled with gratitude for the vision of God's life as Sandy.  It is a beautiful, amazing life and, knowing I am loved beyond measure, I am thankful for this expression of Spirit.

Claiming a life filled with love, I release my Word to the Divine Action of the Law, knowing it is already done in glorious ways.  And I let it be so.  And so it is.
